I just saw this really cool article about an Australian brewery working on creating a beer that can be enjoyed in low or zero gravity situations in anticipation of humanity’s next great leap forward. This strikes me as a perfect solution to a huge problem for prospective astronauts. Who wants to go into space if you have to stay sober the whole time? In terms of style, they’ve chosen to try to make a stout (I’m just going to go ahead and assume it will be called “StOut of This World”). Making a stout is a great idea, as the biggest problems with drinking in space are bland flavors and lack of carbonation. How do I know this, you ask? Let’s just say that the Scottish space program is not quite as primitive as you might expect.*
*Actually, I read it in the article. As near as I can tell, the actual Scottish space program is centered around something called “sheep hurling” wherein competitors attempt to throw a sheep into orbit.
